Where is Föhr?

Föhr is an island on the North Sea near the border between Germany and Denmark. It can only be reached by ship from Dagebüll, a small port town in the county of Schleswig-Holstein.

Check out http://www.wdr-wyk.de for the ferry schedule and all information in order to get to and from Föhr, including route description and train schedules.

What can you do on the island?

At any time of the year, the healthy climate of the island will welcome you. Activities include swimming, cylcing and hiking. Most of the time, even in bad weather, you feel like going out to the fresh air. Föhr also offers plenty of restaurants (mainly fish specialities), nice cafes and bars. On the island there are several tiny pretty villages, each of which has its own attractions.

Check out Föhr’s homepage for further information: http://www.foehr.de (only German)

Where we stayed

We rent a nice apartment for 5 people at the ‘Villa Friedericia’, close to the city centre of the island’s main town ‘Wyk auf Föhr’. Shops and the beach are in walking distance. The flat’s interior design is not luxury, but everything is there: dishwasher, washing machine, and there is even a sauna available. The flat has a private terrace at the back of the house, with a bird park just next door. All in all recommendable!

Find more information in the homepage of the agency ‘Freienstein auf Föhr’, at http://www.freienstein-auf-foehr.de (only German).
