The Philosopher’s Path is probably one of the best places for a walk to ‘feel’ and breath Kyoto’s atmosphere. It is along the little Sosui
Channel and got is name from the philosopher Ikutaro Nishida (1870 - 1945) who used to walk this path every day. There are also many interesting buildings, temples, guest houses, and private houses on the way. The atmosphere is very peaceful and pleasant, although it is becoming very popular and you tend to see many tourists walking with you...
Honen-in, Chiko’s most favourite temple in Kyoto, is so beautiful to our eyes. Its tranquil environment is truely extraordinary. Honen-in is situated in the middle of the forest along the Philosopher’s Path. It was founded in the 13th century, yet the main part was built in 1680. Its simple but pretty garden is also contributing a lot to the atmosphere.
