Our 5th wedding anniversary

August 2005 - Finally it was time to open the “Wedding Box”...!

On 29 July 2000, the day we had church wedding celemony in Rainer’s hometown Herdecke, we received a surprise gift during our wedding party at a little castle. It was a wine box made of wood. Inside there were a bottle of French red wine, two newspapers of that very day, and message cards written by all the guests. The box was closed on the spot, then the bride and groom had to seal it by driving in the nails. We were told not to open the box within the next five years. The idea sounded really amusing and we felt quite excited just to imagine the moment we open

our unique wedding “time capsul”, so to speak, after five years...

The day came a few weeks after 29 July 2005, due to our moving. When we opened the box and saw its contents, we were struck by a big wave of flashbacks - we felt time had passed so quickly and so many things happened in the last five years. It was fantastic to see all the cards, in fact in five different languages: German, French, English, Japanese and even Arabic. We really enjoyed reading them: lots of nice wishes and kind words from our friends, many of them wondering where we would be living in 2005, and some predictions what would have happened in our world by 2005, which

the mark, as you predicted that Mr Moellemann would have that job by now (for those who are unfamiliar with German political scenes: Mr Moellemann died during parachuting a few years ago). Another forecast by Marc, that Rainer’s favourite football team would have become the German champion, hasn’t come true, yet - they are currently playing in the 2nd league... Although, Marc, the Daimler share price increased sharply in July, Jan, this is not because the company is now called “FordChrysler”.
You see, we spent a great time

reading all the cards and wishes. That was a wonderful idea!

Many, many thanks to all of you who contributed to this wonderful project!
