After our short breaks in Nessmersiel in May and November in 2006, we were back to the very north- east of Germany to spend our New Year holdays. It’s nice to come here in this time of the year, as it’s much less crowded than in summer and still the atmosphere is nice.
Although the weather was rather precarious and we had lots of rain with unusually warm gusts, we were lucky enough to have some nice walks, observing thousands of geese making a stopover in the vast field between the dykes. Winter time meant that we had to miss grazing sheep, but we saw some goats instead...!   

We had been to East-Frisia so many times but we hardly had travelled around. So we decided to do some excursions this time.
First we visited a little village called Neuharlingersiel, known to be a health resort. Its tiny harbour is so cute and charming!

Then we finally made it to Jever, the home to Jever Beer, Rainer’s most favourite drink, is produced. Unfortunately we were not able to do the brewery tour, for which a reservation should have made in advance, so we’re now determined to do a brewery tour by all means when we visit Jever next time.

The city of Jever is actually very pretty. Having escaped the bombing in the World War II, its beautiful cobbled streets and old buildings are well preserved. In downtown there are lovely cafes and restaurants, and also the official “Jever Shop”, where we bought some suvenirs :)
