The coastline of southeast Kyushu is the main attraction of the Nichinan Coast Quasi National Park, which features dramatic rock formations and lush, tropical foliage. The red torii (a gate leading into a Japanese shrine) and arched bridges create a striking contrast up against the dark rock of the cave. According to legend, the Udo-jingu Shrine marks the spot where the father of Jimmu-tenno (first Emperor of Japan around 600BC) was born.
