Short spring holiday in Nessmersiel (by the North Sea)

Finally we were back in East-Frisia (=Ostfriesland) by the North Sea, where we hadn’t been since our winter holiday after Christmas 2003. We stayed at the holiday house owned by Rainer’s parents in Nessmersiel, and did a lot of nice walks along the vast green dykes. It was also very pleasant to visit the cute village of Dornum again. Despite an only short holiday over the Mayday long weekend, we really enjoyed the cheering spring atmosphere, espacially because in the past we

spent only our winter holidays in this area. We were greeted by countless sheep peacefully grazing, as well as sweet lambs hopping around on the dykes. We also saw many different birds, all were busy singing and nesting...
An ideal break to get refreshed :)

On a clear day, you can see the Baltrum Island very well from the dyke in Nessmersiel
Windmills for production
 of electricity all over...
...all cows dashed towards Rainer (why?!?!?) What an enthusiastic welcome...!
Hmmh, how nice... ... to be in the sun!
Sheld ducks
We found
a coot's nest by
the stream...
Eggs...!

A little castle and happy ducks in Dornum...

Tidelands - unique area changing its face every about six hours

See more pictures of the great nature in the area and of our visit to Baltrum island, one of the five East Frisian islands near to the German coast. The area is famous for the unique

tidelands and as a resting and living place for all kind of sea birds. Enjoy a taste of it!
