the narrow and deep “King’s Lake” looks like a fiord in the Bavarian Alps. Koenigssee's landmark, the chapel of St. Bartholomew, can only be reached by boat. This famous church, originally built in the 12th century, lies at the tip of a picturesque peninsula.

At the far end of Koenigssee, another beautiful lake Obersee (= upper lake) is waiting to be explored. This lake was separated from Konigssee by a landslide. A 15-min walk from the nearest boat landing stage takes you to the scenery of the lake in its full splendour, including a waterfall. (You can also hike around Obersee along the edge to the far end.) Despite our bad luck with the weather, we enjoyed the tranquillity of the solem nature...
