Update
December 2009 - Football in Stuttgart
The match about to start...

Once a year, our favourite football team, VfL Bochum comes to play in Stuttgart. Those who follow us up closely know that the team from Rainerfs birth town is not one of the high-ranked, always winning teams full of expensive players, but a team fighting all the time with ups and downs.
On 5 December, we had a great afternoon at the Stuttgart stadium, joined by Elias, one of the interns at Rainerfs department and Wolfgang, one of his colleagues who actually supported the Stuttgart team, but joined us in the Bochum area of the stadium. Elias, an Argentinean, turned out to be such a great

support, wearing his blue and white scarf and singing Argentinean football songs all the time. This is probably one of the reasons why the Bochum team played unexpectedly well!
They played very well in the first half, just missing to score a goal. Stuttgart became  better in the second half, which was rewarded by a goal. However, Bochum got stronger again during the last 10 minutes and also made a goal through a free kick in the 89th minute! A great feeling. The match ended 1:1 - absolutely a great success for VfL Bochum!

October 2009 - American Football in San Antonio, TX

Rainer went on a business trip in Austin, TX, for two weeks. While he was there, Bill, his colleague and a big supporter of the Notre Dame University team from Indiana, invited him to watch a real college American football game on Saturday night, which was a great experience! Actually, it took place in a huge dome packed with supporters mainly for the Notre Dame team. They had their marching band, a huge humber of musicians who moved

constantly while playing, forming all kinds of patterns and letters on the field, just before the game started and also during the break.
The Notre Dame team impressed us throughout the dynamic game, winning 40-14 against Washington State University. It was really exciting and amazing how the team, sometimes out of a deadlock situation, opened up the way to score. Real fun! Many thanks to Bill, for the great opportunity!

May 2009 - Spring in the garden
Tsukubai with Azalees and Iris in the background

After a tough winter, our garden is waking up again. Middle of May was azalea time. Rainer planted new azalea plants last autumn, so they are still a bit small. But they were blooming beautifully. Especially the white azalea had so many blossoms that you could hardly see the leaves. Addtionally, the blue iris came out first, with a few white ones following right after.

May 2009 - Northsea holiday
The sea pulls back completely during low tide.
The tidelands - beautiful in its nature
and good for your health...

What a relaxing week! We spent the first week of May in Nessmersiel and had a great time with lots of hikes and good meals. Not yet summer, it is a good season to go there, because it was already warm and pleasant to be outside but there are not so many pepole around, yet.
It was full of life everywhere, sheep and lambs are on the sea wall and the birds are building nests. Great time!
We took a ferry and visited
Baltrum Island, the island opposite of Nessmersiel in the North Sea, for the first time. The ferry schedule depends on the tide, which allowed us to spend about six hours there.

Cars are not allowed on the island, but it is small enough so that you can walk

once around it in three hours. In the east part of the island the nature is kept almost intact. People are only settled in the west part. We saw countless wild birds on our way around, which made our stay truly enjoyable. Click on the link for all pictures and related maps of the area!

November 2008 - Chikofs gThree Word Reviewsh on films

As you can guess from Our Favourites page, Chiko loves films and has spent quite a lot of time to go to the cinema since she was a teenager...

In November 2008 she began her contribution to the site called gThree Wird Reviewh, where you can post your film reviews. The rule is that your review must be only three words per film. It is, of course, not easy to express your impression in exactly three words, positive or negative. However, thatfs exactly what she is enjoying... :)

If you are seeking some suggestion for your next DVD rental, you are very welcome to have a look at the site http://www.threewordreviews.com. This site was created and is being constantly improved by Chikofs friend, who would be very happy if you would also sign in and start posting your own three-word reviews!
If you are particularly interested to read Chikofs reviews, you can check out the list of her reviews
here.
